I live for girls getaways! A few days where I get to hang my Mom hat up, forget about doing laundry and enjoy all that life has to offer. Not saying Mom life doesn’t have anything to offer, but it’s nice to sit down and drink wine. Explore a town and have some good laughs.
This Summer the ladies and I chose Picton to have our weekend getaway. It’s a small town in Southern Ontario, right by Lake Ontario. Prince Edward County is actually our go to destination every summer. It has wineries, breweries and so many delicious restaurants. What’s fun about Prince Edward County is the many little towns in close proximity to one another, that each have their own special tourist touch to them.
The majority of our weekend was based in Picton because we wanted an apartment to rent that was close to food, shopping and drinks. So we could all enjoy the variety of beverages without having to worry about driving.
The place we rented was one of the cutest and stylish apartments we ever had. Known as the Purtelleigh’s Bakery Suites, it was located directly downtown Picton. This three bedroom apartment was perfect for the five of us ladies. With all the amenities you could ask for, including coffee and tea. Plus the freshly baked croissants we received daily was amazing!
We all loved the beautifully designed space. The host Jenny, was helpful and easy to contact if we needed anything. It’s nice seeing a host care about their rentals and the guests that stay in them. There was a ton of information in the apartment about the county, plus a Sandbanks beach pass plus everything you needed to hit the beach! If you are looking for a perfect place to stay in the county, I definitely recommend this spot!
We started our first night by taking a stroll down Main Street and discovering all the restaurants close to the apartment. We eventually landed at Hartley’s Tavern. Unique and delicious food, it was a choice we were all happy about. The Perogie’s are a must if you stop in there.
Friday morning we drove to Bloomfield and had a relaxing hour at the Bloomfield Beauty Co. This clean, and fresh look was the perfect spot for our pedicure. The service was impeccable, and we loved their attention to detail! Not to mention the yummy Latte. Those who run this establishment haven taken a lot of time to make this spa a perfect dream.
After our relaxing morning we were ready for our tour! Every time we are in the county we book a tour with our favourite company, Sandbanks Vacation and Tours. Normally we do a wine tour but we switched it up and booked their County Unveiled Tour. This tour explores a brewery, winery, cider and cheese.
The best of everything! And it was one of the best tours we have been on. We lucked out and had a van and tour guide all to ourselves. Our guide was timely, knowledgeable and was able to squeeze in two extra stops for us! We visited:
- Three Dog Winery – a great variety of different wines, knowledgeable staff plus wood fire pizzas.
- Lake On The Mountain Brewing Co. – Many different beers, the Sour IPA is. Must try!
- County Cider– it’s like being at a candy store. All their flavours are to die for! Especially the Blackberry Peach!
- Delgatto Winery – A small winery that has a beautiful story behind it. You just purchase the DragonFly Wine!
- Fifth Town Artisan Cheese– variety of different meats and cheese. Service was not the greatest as there was one staff member working.
- Cressy Mustard – a local shop with a good selection of different flavours.
After a fun filled afternoon of drinking and spending too much money on alcohol (is that a thing? lol) we stopped in for a beer at 555 Brewery Co. on Picton’s Main Street for a beer and delicious wood fire pizza! Their whole menu is tasty! I recommend their Garlic Oil, Kale, Double Smoked Bacon, Parmesan and Mozzarella Pizza. I’m drooling as I write this!
We relaxed and enjoyed the apartment Friday night and had some good laughs! The best part of this apartment was the size. The 14 foot ceilings and parlour room made this rental extra comfy for the five of us. Plus the bathroom was a dream!
Saturday Morning we got dressed up and headed over to the Instagram Photo worthy Diner, The Vic Cafe!
Everything about this place was perfect! The Decor was beautiful, the service was exceptional and the food was down right delicious. We had an issue with a dish, due to our inability to read the menu; the Mimosas were just too good! And the restaurant dealt with the situation beyond perfect. And I highly recommend you purchase the Breakfast Poutine! If not that, be sure to at least eat the tater tots!!
After our perfect brunch we ended up touring around Prince Edward County for some shopping. Some of my favourite places were the Dead People’s Stuff Antique Shop in Bloomfield for a fun look around. Kelly’s Bake Shop just outside of Picton for gluten-free and vegan baked goods. Owned by a Mom and Daughter team, they just recently opened this new shop.
The Snickerdoodle Ice Cream Sandwich or their Chocolate Chip Cookies are to die for! And Coriader Girl downtown Picton, for their artisan products and flowers. I highly recommend you preorder your flowers to get the bouquet that you want. It’s worth it!
Overall I would rate our Girls Getaway a Five Star. Everything was beyond amazing and we are already wanting to go back for another trip! Prince Edward County is the perfect place for any kind of getaway!
